MAYNE - LOITERTON.

A very pretty wedding took place in the Anglican Church, Wallendbeen, last Wednesday, when Ivy, youngest daughter of Mrs. Loiterton, 'Chelsea,' Wallendbeen, was united to Edwin Laurence Mayne, eldest son of Mrs. Mayne, of Mosman. Rev. D. Sherris officiated.

The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr. F. Loiterton, looked very pretty in an ivory georgette frock, with silver trim mings. She was attended by Miss E. Allbutt, who wore a very pretty frock of pale pink georgette, with hat to match.

Mr. Ken Loiterton, brother of the bride, was best man. The happy couple left by train for Sydney and the South Coast, where the honeymoon is being spent. The bride travelled in a fawn jumper suit, with hat to match. Their future home is to be in Sydney.²

The reception was held in Ellwood 's Hall, where the bride 's mother received. The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of many beautiful presents, including many cheques. Mr and Mrs Neville left by the evening mail for Sydney and the mountains, where they intend spending their honeymoon. The bride wore a dark saxe crepe de chene coat frock for travelling.²

The wedding of Miss Ella Loiterton, second eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loiterton of Queen street Cootamundra, to Mr. Frank Bourke, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bourke, of Chilton, Victoria, took place at the R. C. Church on Monday. Father McCusker officiated.

The bride looked charming. The tulle veil, was kindly lent by Mrs. Milne, and hung in folds over beautiful ivory handbeaded georgette frock and train, and was held in place with orange blossoms and pearls. She carried a sheaf of arum lillies.

As the bride entered the church with her father, Mrs. Ogilvie played the wedding march. Later she sang Ave Maria. Mrs. Geagan Accompanying her with a violin obligato.

The bride's sister Miss Dulcie Loiterton, in a very pretty frock of pink georgette, was bridesmaid, and Mr. M. Dunavan, of Earmedman, best man.

The reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Later the couple left by car for Melbourne.⁴

From Pte. George Mutch.

We are at present quartered in the camp of the Royal Flying Corps, but expect to be shifted any time. All the different trades are split up here and sent to different parts of England to complete their train ing, prior to being sifted up for serviee. The wireless operators stay in Farnborough for their course and will be quartered at Blen heim Barracks for instruction. These barracks are only about a quarter of a mile from our present camp, and are fine, large buildings. This dis trict is and has been for years the training grounds of the British Army, and the whole district is no thing but large brick barracks, which for years have formed the homes of the British regulars. Am sure you have heard and read of Aldershot. It has been computed that at pre sent there must be upwards of 200,000 British Tommies here, and we are the only Australians. At pre sent there are also a couple of thou sand of U.S.A. troops hereabouts, but understand they leave for France almost immediately. See plenty of flying here, though this is not a flying school, but the Royal Aircraft factory is here, and every machine built at these works is test ed before leaving. They have a new machine which they call the S.E 5 just out a little while. Birds abso lutely could not do the things that are done in this bus. It travels up to about 170 miles an hour, and flies in all sorts of styles. I admit I never saw flying in Australia. They rock here all over the place, and drop down from all heights any where at all. The stunts they do with them you would think wero ab solutely impossible. Looping the loop is simply child's play. Imagine one travelling along rolling over side to side, planes or wing, or what ever you like to call them, revolving like a cart wheel, or look up at one and see it coming down nose first, absolutely perpendicular, doing the same motion, and rocking about like a falling leaf, excepting that the wings are edge on to you instead of flat. I know its hnrd to imagine do ing these things. They climb up much faster than any bird up to an eagle. This forms the way to another stunt. They will start climbing, then elevate the plane to nearly the vertical, which, of coarse, is too much, and the engine cannot keep that up. The machine gradually loses way and stops. Then it falls all sorts of fashions, perhap a couple of thouand feet, then away they go. Some machines and some pilots, too, I can tell you.

Have had a fair run around since coming here. Taken altogether, have had a much more pleasant time than I expected, and I have been treated very well ever since we arrived. Considering that we hear, such a noise about the short- age of food in England we cannot growl at the treatment received in that direction. Certainly nothing more is wasted than can be helped, but take the following as our average day's meals: Breakfast, 6.30, porridge, bacon or rissoles, with two slices of bread and margarine; dinner, pea soup, cold roast beef, potatoes and marrow, or French beans, and pickles, custard and prunes, or other small fruit, with half slice of bread. Sometimes puddings, otherwise known as ''sinkers," sometimes rice. 4.30, tea; Two sliccs of bread and jam, sometimes so called cakes, three times a week, cold meat or ham, with greens or tomatoes, and tea. (Note only tea once a day.) Even though at times, the cooking is very indifferent, one can hardly growl. Some do, though. They don't use white flour here. Bread, biscuits, cakes, etc., are all made with the brown stuff, and no thing is particularly tasty, though, no doubt, wholesome. Sugar is fair ly scarce and costs about 1/ lb, jam is not plentiful. Chocolates and sweets are a devil of a price. To bacco is about twice the price it is in Australia. Matches are a penny a box, and dashed hard to get at that.

The war hasn't had near the effect on the country I expected, and everyone here is optimistic regard ing the outcome of the struggle, and the general impression is it will not last longer than six to twelve months more. One could hardly be anything else than an optimist here, seeing the masses of war material and munitions kicking about to spare and hearing from the hundreds that return from the front the reports that all is going well.⁴

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Newcastle, was chosen for the wedding of Agnes, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Milne, of Quirindi, and Ray second son of Mrs. E. S. Mutch and the late Mr. T. Mutch, of Cootamundra.

Rev. A. P. Simm officiated.

The bride, who was given away, by her father, chose a blue woollen novelty weave suit and three-quarter coat with a navy satin blouse, and smart toque with eye veil, and crystal trimmings. She carried a bouquet, of autumn toned flowers.

Miss Janet Fulton, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid. Her navy French, woollen georgette jumper suit was smartly trimmed with satin ap plique, and she wore a matching toque with eye veil. Her bouquet was of pink carnations, gladioli and roses.

Mr. J. Mutch, cousin of the bridegroom, was best man.

Mrs. Milne received guests at the Blue Room, wearing French woollen in a new wine toning, with a wine velour hat and spray of fuchsia. Mrs. Mutch wore a black saunter coat over black and white checked woollen, and added a white posy.

The honeymoon was spent touring, and Mr. and Mrs. Mutch have made their home in Cootamundra.³

BUSH FIRE BRIGADES

Farewell Mr. Ray Mutch

Representatives of Cootamundra and district bush fire brigades and other bodies gathered at the Hotel Central on Friday evening to bid farewell to Mr. Ray Mutch. who is leaving Cootamundra for Newcastle.

Many sincere and glowing tributes were paid to Mr. Mutch for his splendid work as secretary of the Cootamundra Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, his fine qualities as a citizen, and as a business man and a judge of stock.

Mr. E. J. O'Connor, president of the Cootamundra Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, chaired the gathering, and read out a long list of apologies.

Mr. O'Connor said it was with very great regret that they were assembled to say farewell to their late secretary. Ray had been the perfect secretary. As a business man and auctioneer he had excelled. There was no one better in Cootamundra. His valuations of stock had been remarkably accurate.

Mr. O'Connor added that he was sorry to lose a good and sincere friend, and knew that Ray would make a success of anything he undertook.

The president was supported in his remarks by Messrs. A. Bragg, F. Ward; B. O'Connor, J. Kirley, T. Bannon; W. Loiterton; Const. H.Clifton, K. Corby, W. J. Elliott, Ray Ryals, S. Worthington, J. Faunt, R. Punnett, M. McClintock, D. McClintock, J.Moore, W. C. Elliott. L. Sutton, L. Forsyth, E.Elrlngton. W. Corby, N. Armour, H. G. O. Burrows, B. Williams, and M. Scott.

Cr. A. Donaldson (shire president) made a presentation to the guest of a substantial wallet of notes; He said it was a great honor to do so. The town and district had sustained a great loss. They would miss Ray very much, and hoped to see him back. He felt that the remarks passed that night had been very sincere.

Mr. Mutch, in reply, said that it was not only a proud moment for him, but a very emotional one. No one ap preciated friendships more than he did. He had tried to make his life a useful one, and it was more than gratifying to see such a gathering of friends. Every thinking Australian realised that Australia's national income depended on what it could produce. He believed it to be his duty to be constructive and helpful to the pri mary industry in any way possible. One way was to assist in fighting the bush fire menace. He had appreciated the cordiality and good friendship extended to him by members of the dif ferent brigades. Mr. J. Leahy, as president, had been a great worker, and Mr. O'Connor would be equally so. In many instances the speakers had overstated his ability. He and his wife would like to see Cootamundra friends at Newcastle. He thanked them all very sincerely.

Mr. Mutch then proceeded to propose 'The Cootamundra- Bush Fire Brigade's New Secretary (Mr. R. Loiterton)," and said he thought that Ron could do a better job.

In responding, Mr. Loiterton said that Ray had carried out the job to such a degree of perfection that it was going to be hard to follow him. However, he would do his best. With Ray's departure he was losing a great friend. His ability to weigh small matters just as accurately as big ones, together with his outstanding honesty, had made him a prominent figure in tho town and district.

Mr. J. Moore proposed 'The Ladies," and said that the calibre, of the womenfolk of a town and district made it, and in this respect they were very fortunate. Mrs. Smart, in responding, said that anything done had been with the greatest of pleasure.

Mr. and Mrs. Smart were also thanked for the manner in which they had catered for the function.

Mr. J. Kirley proposed "The Press," and Mr. H. Plnkstone responded.

The final toast of the evening was that of 'The Cootamundra Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.'"This was pro posed by Cr. A. Donaldson, and Mr. E. J. O'Connor responded.³
