Mil-Actionbetween 1914 and 1916Private A F Sitlington embarked aboard HMAT A24 Benalla at Melbourne, Australia on 19 October 1914. In Alexandria, Egypt he boarded the Clan McGilvarry for the Gallipoli campaign where he received gunshot wounds to the arm and thigh. He was sent to the hospital at Malta to recover. When fit he was sent to Alexandria, Egypt to rejoin the 8th battalion on 27 October 1915. On 27 December 1915 he was admitted to the hospital at Lemnos with mumps and was discharged from there on 15 January 1916. He was transferred to the 60th Battalion on 22 January 1916. On 18 June he sailed from Alexandria for Marseilles, France, where he arrived on 29 June. On 28 July he was reported as missing in action.2

DISTRICT CASUALTIES.

Word was received on Wednesday, by his parents, of the death in France, of Private Alexander Farndale Sitlington, of Colac. He was 26 years of age, and was one of the first to enlist from Colac. He was at the landing at Gallipoli, and was wounded, at Cape Helles, and was sent to Malta, after which he went back to Egypt. He was then sent to France, where he met his death.3
